ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology QCF

Accredited by:

Introduction

The School of Natural Therapies' ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology Course provides an exciting, dynamic and thoroughly enjoyable learning experience for all students undertaking one of our internationally recognised diplomas. The course is open to experienced complementary health practitioners, or complete beginners. Whatever your background, it provides a vital ‘stepping stone’ for candidates wanting to move into the rapidly growing field of complementary health.

With a long standing reputation for learning excellence and on-going tutor support, the School of Natural Therapies' prides itself on ensuring that students are well prepared for the ITEC Diploma examination. On successful completion of the examination, post graduate students will be able to begin a new career or earn additional income in a number of different ways.

Did you know?
The School of Natural Therapies are working to the new ITEC syllabus, which incorporates the new QCF (Qualification Credit Framework) standards. The QCF is at the heart of a major educational reform process in England, Wales & Ireland which allows skills gained (such as this diploma course) to have value and credit in industry needs, opening up collaborative working opportunities between sector skills councils (SSC’s) standards setting bodies (SSB’s) employers and awarding organisations and to suit potential employer’s needs.
Credits gained in these QCF’s can now count towards future education and university degrees.

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the ancient art of applying pressure to the feet and hands using specific thumb, finger and hand techniques – it is based on a system of ten ‘zones’ and ‘reflex areas’, that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands. Its function is to effect a physical healing and changes to homeostasis by releasing ‘blockages’ and restoring the free-flow of energy through the body .

The therapy was developed by Eunace Ingham in the mid to late twentieth century; however, the principles of treating the body holistically (Literally - as a whole) using lines of energy, date back thousands of years.

In the tomb of Ankhamor, there are a series of pictures, illustrating what seems to be a similar art to Reflexology, whereby a physician is holding and manipulating both feet and hands. In today’s stressful lifestyles, more and more people are reaping the benefits of the art of Reflexology.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

Research has shown the specific techniques of reflexology to be effective and beneficial in many ways, it:

  • It relieves stress and creates relaxation – 75% of disease is thought to be stress related.
  • In order for the body to maintain ‘homeostasis’, it needs energy in the form of oxygen and nutrients, which are circulated in the blood. Reflexology increases blood circulation, it increases the efficiency of cells and therefore organs.
  • It helps to prelease trapped nervous energy and improves neural pathways – somewhere in the region of 7000 nerves are stimulated through reflexology massage.
  • It improves the elimination of waste material, which can be harmful to the body if it accumulates.
  • It activates ‘self-healing’ in the body
  • Pain reduction - documented in 27 studies including research showing impact on individuals of all ages and health states
  • Aids post-operative recovery: Reflexology work aids recovery after surgery as shown by several studies, reducing pain and lessening the use of post-operative analgesics.
  • Complements cancer care: Pain, nausea, vomiting, and/or anxiety eased for chemotherapy patients following reflexology work as shown by16 studies from 7 countries.
  • Eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects: Women who received reflexology experienced shorter labour times and used less analgesia. In addition, reflexology showed a positive impact on postpartum depression, anxiety, urination and bowel movements.

Introduction

Is there anything more debilitating than shoulder pain? That deep, nagging discomfort that just won’t shift, no matter what. This common complaint leaves many therapists perplexed and many clients achieving only temporary relief.
In this two day course we will examine some of the many cases of shoulder pain and learn new techniques that might help deal with the discomfort and help prevent recurrence. Along with the lower back it is an area where relief can be felt most immediately.

Deep Tissue Massage
During the course, students will also learn the techniques of delivering deep tissue massage, not only to the shoulder area, but also to the upper and lower back – another area where clients are in need of effective deeper massage.

Remedial Massage Techniques
We will also be exploring palpation and client observation skills, as well as identifying and dealing with troublesome trigger points. Muscle energy techniques are also covered, allowing the student to learn new ways of providing pain relief and to treat  lack of mobility, again providing effective relief to their clients.
