Annette Kirkley

Annette has been running a busy massage practice in SW London for many years. She specializes in sports and remedial treatments but enthusiastically works with all who wish to receive the benefits of massage, taking a holistic approach and believing that relaxation of body and mind go hand in hand. Her long experience of dance also equips her to give sound exercise advice.

It was the decades of doing ballet classes, growing body awareness and trying to deal with the imbalances and little aches and pains, that led Annette to train as a massage therapist herself. (She still dances with as much passion as she gives to her massage, less ballet now but jazz dance, Bollywood, Zumba and Argentine tango.) She qualified in Anatomy, Physiology and Body Massage with ITEC, followed by a Sports Massage diploma, and is also qualified in other specialist areas such as Pregnancy Massage. She trained with the No Hands Massage Company to Advanced Practitioner level.

Annette has been teaching a variety of CPD massage courses for several years with London-based massage schools. She in fact began her career as a teacher, and really wanted to participate in the training of new and aspiring therapists. This is an aspect of her work that gives great satisfaction, encouraging students to become thoughtful and effective therapists, and bringing a sense also that she has come full circle.

Over the past 15 years Julie has qualified to practice many Complementary Therapies such as Reflexology, Massage, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage.  Neuroskeletal Re-alignment is the latest addition to her skill set, although she would always consider her main career focus to be Reflexology.

Julie was lucky enough to train with Renèe Tanner, and has worked with Infertility and Reflexology with amazing results.  Julie began her academic career by giving talks to therapists, and progressed over the years to teaching and examining Reflexology students in many FE/Adult Education and private colleges.

As Head of Section for the Health Department at Morley College, she achieved the Centre of Excellence award for Reflexology in 2011. She has taken part in the organisation and manning of Complementary Therapy stalls at many exhibitions, and has been involved in research exploring how the therapy works. Julie will also be delivering a workshop at Camexpo this year.

She is currently Treasurer of the Reflexology Forum which has been instrumental in achieving voluntary self-regulation, and for the writing of the Core Curriculum for Reflexology Standard.

Julie has also worked as a therapist in one of the few primary schools who see the benefits of complementary therapy treatments and learning for children.

What our students have said about

"  want to thank you once again for the outstanding level of help and support throughout another fantastic course, having now achieved not just one, but two Distinctions with your school.   Having not studied in years, I was daunted by the aspect of going through this again in 2012/2013 .  However, I cannot praise Helen enough for her amazing teaching skills, somehow making learning the Anatomy & Physiology seem easy!   Suz was an amazing teacher for the practical Massage sessions too.  So keen to pass on all she knows, and her feedback and help with the coursework was second to none.   So after passing the Massage course, it didn't surprise me to be back again this year to train as a Reflexologist.  Julie is so knowledgeable in the subject.  With years of experience, you will learn so much with her.   I highly recommend SNT to everyone.   Alison "

" I have worked in office jobs my whole life and decided it was time for a change. I came across the reflexology course at the School of Natural Therapies on the AoR website and thought it looked great to fit around work and a small child to look after.    Julie was such an inspiring tutor and I was instantly hooked on it. Even though there were lots of case studies to complete, I really enjoyed all of them as my confidence grew each time and I got to understand how to feel for imbalances in the feet. One of the men I treated was told he would never father children of his own and within two months, his girlfriend was pregnant after 5 years of trying. I can't say for sure that it was the reflexology that enabled this to happen but he certainly seemed to think so which was a real confidence boost.   I would highly recommend this course and college to anyone thinking of applying, whether you're already a practising therapist or wanting to completely change your job, like me. It is such a relaxed and friendly environment to study in and all of the tutors are really helpful and supportive "

What our students have said about Nicolle

" Your course ‘massage for dementia’ was truly inspirational and has fuelled us in the creation of our new business, so this is an update on our progress in the last four months. "We have been massaging in one care home for a while now; massaging a few private patients weekly. Pip’s prior contacts in the ho...me, plus our weekly presence has opened up the opportunity to demonstrate our skills to the other residents, this we do in the form of a ‘pamper day’.The ‘pamper days’ are something we started before christmas at another care home, with great success. There, we arranged a meeting with the matron and activities manager and offered our service for a morning, free of charge. We had a huge response; which made the home, particularly the activities manager, the patients and ourselves look and feel superb! We now massage in that home each month with a minimum of 10 patients. We are currently in dialogue with a third home and will offer another pamper day with the aim of watching our business grow, one home at a time. Also, Pip through a spontaneous and somewhat random conversation with her G.P, enrolled her in the benefits of touch as a form of communication. The G. P. has asked for as many pamphlets and cards as we can provide. The pamphlets can make us known to more private patients and more importantly to relatives of patients, which can then gain us access to more care and private homes. It is extremely early days, however we are finding that if you can get yourself into a position of demonstrating what is possible with our therapy, enrolling others into your world inevitably follows. So thank you for teaching and inspiring us, and please share this with future therapists, the more that our out there doing our work, the more our work will flow." Joseph's interest in massage was first evoked following years of unresolved back pain.
Having always been involved in sport ….  spending his youth as a competitive Judo player, his University years as a powerlifter and the last 15 studying Kempo Jujitsu, Joseph had unwittingly imbalanced his musco-skeletal system.
His overuse injury had not only been a painful but expensive journey, which finally ended as he sought answers at the School of Natural Therapies.

"Having felt 'at home' from the first day of attending the SNT, I realised I was in the company of true professionals who detected and addressed my back issue with ease. I needed no more convincing of the value of massage therapy and it's associated skills …. I was hooked and haven't stop studying, practising and delivering treatments since.

It's an absolute honour and privilege to be back at the School of Natural Therapies as a tutor. My intention is to bring my own passion and style to lift the skills of all our students to reach their full potential during their learning experience."

What our students have said about Joseph

" The recent Deep Tissue Massage course with SNT was amazing. It only adds to the confidence of the therapist when performing treatments. There’s a huge amount of valuable information to take on board, postural assessment, great techniques and above all how to reduce any chance of strain to the therapist. I’d highly recommend, the knowledge gained has been invaluable in helping clients with specific areas of concern that require deeper treatment. The course really opens up a whole new world with regard to treatment offerings for the therapist and you leave the course confident in your ability to apply in practice. Superb! "

" I greatly enjoyed the weekend CPD course, which I found informative, engaging, and enriching.  Joseph is a generous tutor, whose teaching extends beyond the restricted domain of the course to relevant areas of client care, advanced anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and standards of conscientious business practice.  Modestly, he reveals his inspiring sources, which provided me with the opportunity to expand my study of the subject he taught through further reading and research.  His teaching is saturated with enlightening principles that could transform relatively uninspiring prescriptive routines into thoughtful and playfully creative therapeutic treatments.  I found his instructed, result-oriented approach refreshing and equally beneficial to my development as a therapist and to my future clients. Suzannah was born and raised in London and started out on a traditional path graduating with a degree in Economics. However, she quickly found herself whisked away by a career in the fashion and beauty industries working all over the world.

Having a keen interest in the workings of the human body and the importance of good health, diet and fitness, Suzannah decided to train initially as a fitness instructor.

A personal sports injury then led Suzannah to seek alternative therapies and her passion for massage and its benefits was ignited. Her busy lifestyle meant that a fast track, London based college was the perfect place to pursue her interest in massage so she came to study with the School of Natural Therapies  - since that time, she hasn't looked back!!

Somehow managing to fit all this into her life, Suzannah continues to work freelance in fashion and alongside this, practices holistic massage, on- site chair and sports massage, more often than not making use of her skills in the fashion, music and fitness industry.

The School of Natural Therapies is delighted to welcome Suzanne back, after all of this professional success in the industry - this time as a tutor.

Suzanne says, ‘’When starting my massage course at SNT I could never have imagined that I would be invited to join the team. I’ve enjoyed every minute; from training to becoming a trainer in massage.’’

What our students have said about Suz

" I recently took the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage with the School of Natural Therapies. After searching a few different course providers I'm so pleased that I chose SNT. The tutors are extremely knowledgeable and experts within their field, answering all my questions in detail. I felt totally at ease during practical sessions; all routines were really clearly explained and demonstrated step by step. There is plenty of time for practising and refining massage techniques whilst integrating the anatomy and physiology theory to consolidate your knowledge. Although there is a considerable workload involved, tutors gave us deadlines throughout the course and we were fully prepared for the exam routine. I was very pleased to pass with a good grade, thanks to excellent tuition from Suz.   I actually took my A&P with another provider due to my work commitments; even though students usually take both elements with the same provider, SNT were very understanding and supported me fully.   I would highly recommend the course with SNT. Thanks so much.    Sarah "

What our students have said about Helen

" There are many e-learning courses for L3 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology available, but in my experience nothing can compare to being taught face-to-face as part of a small group. This is why I chose SNT originally and I definitely made the right choice. Helen is an amazingly enthusiastic, knowledgeable teacher who brought even the hardest elements to life for our close knit group. APP is an intense course that requires hard work but with Helen's teaching and supportive classmates I achieved a Distinction at 96%. I'm now looking forward to starting the Reflexology course with SNT in the Autumn. "

" "I had interest in learning reflexology and I realised that I needed to take AP&P first. I did a search online and found The School of natural Therapies, which was not too far from me and it seemed a safe choice as they are accredited and/or recognised by several associations in the industry and have many years of experience. However, I was not expecting to enjoy the course as much as I did. I have a full time job and was concerned about not being able to spend enough time revising. But Helen proved to be not only knowledgeable in the subject, but very dynamic and animated, which helped me to learn and retain the information before having to get home and study as well as waking our curiosity and further interest in the subject.   As the groups are small I had the chance to benefit from very close attention. It almost felt like if I had the teacher for myself and that my needs as a foreign student were always met. So all in all, I strongly recommend this school and this course. I am now studying reflexology and again, loving it!!” "

Marc Innes MISRM

My name is Marc Innes and I am the owner and Principal of the School of Natural Therapies.
I must begin by saying that I feel honoured and excited to be the proud owner and Principal of a school that has had an excellent reputation for the past 25 years!

Since I took ownership of the school and the role of Principal, it has grown from a small but personal establishment, into one of the busiest training academies in London, specialising in Clinical Sport and Remedial Massage training and holistic massage therapy training, but without compromising that personal touch we have always had an outstanding reputation for.

I am immensely proud of the dedicated team of tutors and industry experts who teach for us, alongside the reputation we have established for excellence in coaching, supporting and preparing students for the big wide industry out there!!!

I began my career in the NHS, working in a number of managerial and training roles within the Ambulance Service in London – I spent much of that time educating and coaching medical staff. Over time I developed an interest in all things complementary to Allopathic Medicine, in particular, Reiki Healing, which along with EFT, culminated in me running a successful teaching and ‘energy healing’ practice in Brighton. Having spent many years in the medical profession, I have an extensive knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology and I have been invited on several occasions to coach medical staff & Drs in resuscitation and emergency care procedures; this sound medical knowledge has also served me well in the massage and complementary therapy industry.

I have studied and taught many forms of massage over the years, including Holistic, Sports & Deep Tissue and Aromatherapy. For the past four years I have written manuals, taught Post Grad, Advanced and CPD courses to the massage industry and filmed instructional DVD's .It is fascinating to combine what I have learnt over the years in the allopathic medical world, with massage and complementary health and I firmly believe that all disciplines can be ‘complementary’ with one another to help bring about ‘well-being’ and vitality for everyone who seek this kind of treatment. Whether you wish to qualify in our ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma course, study Sports and Remedial Massage or Reflexology, I look forward to welcoming you to one of our popular courses here at the School.
