Project Description

Baby Massage Instructors Course

Qualification gained: Diploma in Baby Massage Instructor

This is a brand new addition to SNT’s portfolio of CPD courses for qualified massage therapists.

Across the world, in many cultures, parents have instinctively known that cradling, touching and stroking a baby relaxes and soothes their child.

The concept of learning baby massage skills is relatively recent, but has become very popular with a demand for therapists who want to teach parents how to successfully and effectively massage their babies and share a closer bond.

Massage benefits both the baby and the giver in terms of sharing quality time together and communicating love, but is also useful in helping relieve many minor complaints such as colic, constipation, teething, skin conditions and poor sleep.

This course is also a good compliment to the Pregnancy and Postnatal Massage course – if you are able to massage pregnant clients, then you have a ready market of mothers (and their friends) who might potentially be interested in learning baby massage skills.

It may also open up a new and very enjoyable additional source of income, once you have immersed yourself in this growing and popular field of massage.

Course Structure

The Baby Massage Instructors’ course is twofold – first it will equip the learner with the skills to massage babies of varying ages and needs, which is based on a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding of the physiology and development of babies.

Secondly it will provide learners with the skills and confidence to be able to set up and teach a baby massage course to parents or carers, with their babies. To this end, the course will run over two days, with a small amount of pre-course reading material so that there is plenty of time for practical work during your attendance on the course.

In addition, there is a case study assignment to be completed after the course. This will reinforce the learner’s new skills, to provide practice and confidence in running courses and with working with real babies.

During the course we use dolls – we do this because they have a lot more tolerance than the real thing! Students should provide their own, as they will need them subsequently when teaching baby massage, though there may be a few available for use at the course if needed

However, having said that, we hope also to be able to bring in a mum(s) and babies as well, where we can.
